Oman Air is the national passenger airline of the Sultanate of Oman. It began operations in 1993 and developed from a regional carrier into an international airline based in Muscat. It became a full oneworld member in June 2025.[1][2]

Early development

Oman Air’s operational history dates to 1993. Its early development connected Oman with regional markets and provided a basis for subsequent international expansion. The airline’s records form part of Oman’s aviation heritage: in 2022 the National Records and Archives Authority endorsed its records-management manual, formalising the preservation and management of material documenting the business.[1]

Widebody fleet

The airline ordered six Boeing 787-8 aircraft in November 2011 as part of its expansion plans. Boeing marked delivery of the first Dreamliner in October 2015. The investment added a newer widebody type intended to support longer-range flying, with operating efficiency and passenger comfort among the reasons given for its selection.[3]

Alliance integration

Oman Air joined oneworld in June 2025 after more than two years of integration work. Membership extended its passengers’ access to partner networks and reciprocal frequent-flyer benefits. Eligible travellers gained access to alliance priority services and lounges, while customers of other member airlines received corresponding benefits on Oman Air. The airline described the partnership as a way to improve international access to Oman as well as outbound travel options.[2]

Network and transformation

A business transformation programme launched in 2023 aimed to improve efficiency and reach financial breakeven. The airline’s report on 2025 also emphasised domestic access, including capped fares for Omani citizens between Muscat and Salalah and additional capacity during peak demand. This domestic role sits alongside the development of international routes and connections through the alliance.[4]
