Zlin Aircraft is the name associated with a Czech line of training, sporting and aerobatic aeroplanes whose industrial origins date to 1934. Jan Antonín Baťa established the original Zlín aviation company, and manufacturing became centred at Otrokovice. Early aircraft and wartime production
Baťa's aviation activities preceded the manufacturer's formal establishment, including an air school opened in 1932 and support for glider construction. Early powered designs included the Z-XII, a wooden low-wing sporting aircraft, followed by further light-aircraft projects. German occupation interrupted development in 1939. Wartime production included Bücker Bü 181 aircraft, and modified versions continued after liberation as the Z-181, Z-281 and Z-381. Training and aerobatic heritage
The Z-26 began the Trener family, intended for elementary instruction, aerobatics and glider towing. The Polish Aviation Museum dates the prototype's flight to 1947 and identifies Karel Tomáš as its designer. Successive developments produced a family of trainers and aerobatic aircraft rather than a single unchanged model. The manufacturer's history also records glider production, including the Z-25 and Z-125 Šohaj. Later organisation and products
Moravan underwent ownership changes and restructuring after the end of the state-enterprise era. A new Zlin Aircraft company was established in 2009 to continue aircraft production. The manufacturer's website now presents the business as Zlin Aero and lists the Z 242 L Zeus and Z 143 LSi Genius. In addition to complete aeroplanes, it supplies aircraft wheels and brakes for civil and military applications.
