Sukhoi is a Russian aircraft-design and manufacturing name associated with Pavel Sukhoi's bureau, established in 1939. Its aircraft include fighters, attack aircraft and bombers. Formation and re-establishment
Pavel Sukhoi's team developed the aircraft that became the Su-2 after winning a competition for a short-range bomber. A government decision of 29 July 1939 established his independent design organisation. It continued experimental combat-aircraft work during the war, but the bureau was dissolved in 1949 and restored in May 1953. Combat-aircraft families
Sukhoi developed aircraft for several different tactical requirements. The Su-24 served as a tactical bomber, while the Su-25 was designed for ground attack. The Su-27 became the starting point for a particularly extensive family of fighters and related aircraft. Later members included the Su-30 and Su-35 fighters, the carrier-based Su-33 and Su-34 strike aircraft. Industrial integration and civil aviation
United Aircraft Corporation was established in 2006 to consolidate Russian aircraft design and production assets, including the Su and MiG brands. In 2022 its annual report records the absorption of the Sukhoi and MiG companies into the corporation. Civil-aircraft activities followed a separate organisational path: responsibility for the Superjet programme entered Irkut's Regional Aircraft branch in 2020.
