Pratt & Whitney Canada PW600

The Pratt & Whitney Canada PW600 is a compact turbofan family designed for very light and light business jets. Production applications include the Eclipse 500, Cessna Citation Mustang and Embraer Phenom 100. The three installations use the PW610F-A, PW615F-A and PW617F-E respectively.[1]

Compact architecture

The engine uses two rotating systems: a two-stage high-pressure compressor and its single-stage turbine, plus a fan driven by a separate single-stage low-pressure turbine. A reverse-flow combustor and an exhaust mixer complete the principal gas path. The low stage count is central to the engine's compact design and limits the number of parts requiring maintenance.[1]

Ratings and aircraft integration

The manufacturer's representative mechanical thrust figures range from 950 pounds for the PW610F series to 1,780 pounds for the PW617F series, with the PW615F between them. Dual-channel full-authority digital control manages operation and provides monitoring and diagnostic information. Access to external components was considered during design to make maintenance work faster on the small aircraft installations.[1]

PW615 certification

The PW615F-A received European certification on 1 March 2007. EASA's type certificate identifies Pratt & Whitney Canada as both manufacturer and certificate holder and refers to the Canadian certification basis under Airworthiness Manual Chapter 533. The European approval also included a special condition covering programmable logic devices, reflecting the role of electronic equipment in the engine's control architecture.[2]

Regulatory scope

The European data sheet specifies requirements for fuel venting and engine emissions under ICAO Annex 16. It therefore documents more than the mechanical engine designation: it records the airworthiness and environmental basis under which the Mustang's PW615 variant was accepted. Other PW600 models retain their own identities within the broader propulsion family.[2]
