The Pratt & Whitney Canada PW800 is a turbofan family developed for long-range business aircraft. The PW812D powers the Dassault Falcon 6X, the PW814GA the Gulfstream G500 and the PW815GA the G600. The family shares core technology with Pratt & Whitney's geared turbofan programme.[1]
Engine technology
The engine incorporates a single-piece fan and a TALON X combustor. The high-pressure turbine uses advanced cooling and active tip-clearance control, while the compressor is designed for high stiffness. Dual-channel full-authority digital engine control provides engine management together with diagnostic and health-monitoring functions.[1]
Maintenance access
Large panels in the bypass duct allow technicians to reach the core. This was part of an emphasis on reducing scheduled maintenance demands as well as improving propulsion performance. Pratt & Whitney markets the family within the 10,000–20,000-pound thrust class, with different engine sizes and ratings tailored to the Falcon and Gulfstream installations.[1]
Falcon 6X installation
The Falcon 6X entered service in 2023 with two PW812D engines. Dassault describes the aircraft as capable of Mach 0.90 and a 5,500-nautical-mile range, illustrating the long-distance mission for which the engine installation was developed. The aircraft combines that performance with a large cabin accommodating up to nineteen passengers, linking propulsion capability to both speed and payload requirements.[2]
Business-aircraft role
The Falcon installation places the PW800 in an aircraft equipped with Dassault's EASy IV flight deck and associated electronic systems. Dassault's 2025 annual report also states that its Falcon aircraft can operate with fuel containing up to 50 percent sustainable aviation fuel. Together with the Gulfstream applications, the 6X demonstrates the PW800's role in a generation of business aircraft intended to combine extended range, high cruise speed and lower operational impact.[2][1]
