The Rolls-Royce AE 3007 is a two-shaft, high-bypass turbofan with civil business-aircraft and military surveillance applications. Members of the family power Cessna Citation X aircraft, Embraer Legacy business jets and unmanned aircraft including Global Hawk and Triton. It belongs to the AE family of engines built around a common core approach.[1][2]

Gas generator

The core incorporates a fourteen-stage high-pressure compressor and an annular combustor. The business-aviation technical description specifies sixteen fuel nozzles and two igniters, followed by a two-stage high-pressure turbine. A single-stage fan supplies the bypass flow, and the low-pressure turbine extracts energy from the exhaust to drive it. This arrangement separates the fan's propulsive role from the high-speed compression and combustion machinery.[1]

Civil variants

The AE 3007C series serves the Citation X and Citation X+, while AE 3007A1 and A2 versions power the Legacy 600 and 650. These applications place related engines in business aircraft with different range, speed and cabin requirements. The control arrangement uses dual aircraft-mounted full-authority digital engine controls. Rolls-Royce's support programmes for these installations cover engine maintenance, operational assistance and overhaul services.[1]

Surveillance roles

The defence AE 3007 is associated with high-altitude intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. Rolls-Royce identifies the Global Hawk and Triton among its platforms, where propulsion supports sustained airborne sensing missions. The manufacturer's defence data sheet lists the AE 3007H at 9,500 lbf thrust, illustrating a specific military rating rather than a single output applicable to every AE 3007 installation.[2][3]

Common architecture

The AE programme extends the use of a shared gas-generator concept across turbofan, turboprop and turboshaft applications. Within that family, the AE 3007 converts the core's output into fan-driven jet propulsion. Its defence technical sheet gives a fan diameter of 38.5 inches and a bypass ratio of approximately five, describing the physical scale and airflow division of the turbofan rather than the shaft-power ratings used for related propeller and rotor engines.[2][3]
