Rolls-Royce BR700

The Rolls-Royce BR700 is a turbofan family encompassing the BR710, BR715 and BR725. Produced at Dahlewitz in Germany, these engines serve business jets and the Boeing 717 regional airliner. The family combines a substantial corporate-aviation role with an airline application requiring frequent short-sector operation.[1][2]

BR710

The BR710 received certification in 1996 and became a principal engine for long-range business aircraft. Rolls-Royce's 2011 production milestone described a thrust range of 14,750–15,500 lbf and applications including the Bombardier Global Express, Global 5000 and Gulfstream G550. The rollout of the 2,000th BR710 at Dahlewitz demonstrated the scale reached by this branch of the programme.[1]

BR715

The BR715 was developed by BMW Rolls-Royce for the Boeing 717-200. Boeing's February 1999 description identifies two high-bypass BR715 engines as the aircraft's powerplant. The application placed the family in the approximately 100-seat airline market and in a different operating environment from the long-range corporate jets associated with the BR710.[2]

BR725 architecture

Developed for the Gulfstream G650 programme, the BR725 received EASA certification in 2009. It has a 50-inch swept titanium fan with 24 blades, driven by a three-stage low-pressure turbine. The ten-stage high-pressure compressor incorporates five stages of blisks, while the high-pressure turbine has two stages. Rolls-Royce identifies contributions from both BR700 and Trent technology in this design.[3][4]

Performance development

The BR725's maximum thrust is 16,900 lbf. Rolls-Royce reports four-percent lower specific fuel consumption and reduced noise and nitrogen-oxide emissions compared with the BR710. These manufacturer comparisons describe the development objectives of the newer member. The BR725 also introduced longer maintenance intervals and eliminated a mid-life inspection requirement, connecting the improved engine design with the operational demands of long-range business aviation.[4]
