AeroLogic is a German all-cargo airline jointly owned in equal shares by DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo. Headquartered at Leipzig/Halle Airport, it operates an all-Boeing 777F fleet across the express and general air-freight networks of its two shareholders.[1]
Formation
The legal predecessor of AeroLogic was established in 2007, and the company adopted the AeroLogic name on 9 January 2008. DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo each hold 50 per cent of the shares.[1]
The first Boeing 777F, D-AALA, arrived in May 2009. Commercial operations began on 25 June 2009 with four aircraft. AeroLogic was among the early European operators of the 777 freighter and built its operation around a single, modern aircraft type.
Fleet growth
The fleet expanded to eight 777Fs by 2011, ten by 2017 and fourteen by 2019. Growth accelerated during 2020–2022 as demand for international cargo capacity increased. AeroLogic recorded 22 aircraft in 2023 and 28 Boeing 777Fs in 2025.[1]
An all-777F fleet simplifies crew training, maintenance and spare-parts planning. The aircraft can carry more than 100 tonnes on long-range sectors and is suited to both the time-definite express schedule of DHL and the general-freight network marketed by Lufthansa Cargo.[2]
Network and operating model
Leipzig/Halle Airport is the home base and the principal DHL Express hub in Central Europe. Frankfurt, Lufthansa Cargo's main hub, is also central to the operating pattern. Aircraft can be assigned between shareholder networks according to the day of the week and commercial requirement, allowing one fleet to serve two complementary systems.
The summer 2026 network links destinations across Europe, Asia and North America, including major cargo airports such as Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, Singapore, Chicago, Los Angeles, Cincinnati and Frankfurt.[1]
Organisation
AeroLogic is a distinct airline with its own German air operator certificate, crews and management. It does not simply lease aircraft to its owners: it conducts the flights and maintains a dedicated operations organisation. Aircraft appear in AeroLogic's grey-and-yellow scheme, DHL colours and other partner markings, but remain part of the same operating fleet.
The joint-venture structure combines DHL's express-parcel volumes with Lufthansa Cargo's broader freight network. This provides stable utilisation across different traffic peaks and makes AeroLogic an important example of collaborative fleet ownership in modern air cargo.
