Amerijet International is an American cargo airline whose principal hub is Miami International Airport. It operates dedicated freighters on services linking the United States with the Caribbean and Latin America, and also supplies charter and contracted aircraft capacity.[1][2]
Origins and Miami hub
Amerijet began in 1974 with a leased aircraft carrying passengers and small consignments between the United States and the Bahamas. By 1978 it was operating overnight courier routes with Falcon 20 aircraft. The company opened its Miami International Airport hub in 1987, establishing the base around which its international cargo network developed.[1]
Cargo handling
Amerijet's published Miami facility information describes more than 360,000 square feet of import and export space and a 40,000-square-foot perishable handling centre. The latter provides refrigerated and chilled storage for cargo whose condition depends on temperature control. The facility includes automated weighing and dimensioning stations and systems for moving unit load devices.[1]
Its stated cargo categories include pharmaceuticals, perishables, valuable shipments and declared hazardous materials. These consignments require different acceptance and handling arrangements. The aircraft is only one part of the transport process; warehouse storage, transfer to the aircraft and onward release also determine whether a shipment reaches its consignee in the required condition.[2]
Airline and ground network
The airline's company profile identifies Boeing 767 freighters as the core of its scheduled operation. Its own flights link Miami with destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America. The broader network advertised by the company includes onward connections, so its total number of marketed destinations should not be read as a count of airports served by Amerijet aircraft.[2]
Amerijet also arranges truckload, less-than-truckload and expedited road transport in the United States and Canada. In its international service regions it offers clearance and final delivery for commercial customers. These services connect the airport-to-airport flight with the surrounding logistics chain and allow freight to enter or leave the network away from an airport cargo terminal.[2]
